Top 5 Locations for Outdoor Maternity Photos in Colorado Springs

Finding the perfect backdrop for your maternity photos is about more than just a pretty view—it’s about finding a place that makes you feel like the goddess you are. As a Colorado Springs maternity photographer, I’ve scouted nearly every trail and park in the Pikes Peak region to find spots that offer great light, easy accessibility (because hiking at 34 weeks is no joke!), and epic scenery.

If you’re planning your session, here are my top five favorite locations for maternity photography in Colorado Springs.

1. Garden of the Gods

It’s a classic for a reason. The towering red rock formations provide a dramatic contrast against a flowy maternity gown.

• Why it’s great for maternity: The "Golden Hour" light here hits the rocks and creates a warm, ethereal glow that is incredibly flattering for baby bumps.
• Pro Tip: I recommend the High Point Overlook for sweeping views without a long walk from the car. I also love to shoot near the entrance in the summer for beautiful sunflowers, and at Rock Ledge Ranch, the historical preserve in the park. It offers rustic buildings, and a bridge that absolutely glows at sunset!

2. Red Rock Canyon Open Space

Think of this as the "quieter cousin" to Garden of the Gods. It offers similar red rock beauty but with more varied textures, including golden tall grass and calm lakeside views.

• Why it’s great for maternity: It offers a more "wild Colorado" feel. The trails are well-groomed, which make it very safe for expecting mamas and little kids. (hint: if you like that lakeside view, there's a decent bit of hill to climb. It's not steep, but it's can be challenging late into pregnancy. That said, I did my own maternity photos there, so I know how it feels to hike that hill at 37 weeks pregnant.)

3. Fox Run Regional Park

If you’re dreaming of a forest aesthetic, Fox Run in the Black Forest area is unbeatable. With its towering lodgepole pines and shimmering fallen needles, it feels like a secluded fairytale.

• Why it’s great for maternity: The trees provide excellent shade, meaning we can shoot a bit earlier in the afternoon if needed. It’s also perfect for winter sessions when you want that "evergreen" look. This park is huge and open, making it a very popular spot in late summer/early fall.

4. Palmer Park

This one takes the cake for breathtaking skylines. The high plateaus offer a 360-degree view of the city and the mountains.

• Why it’s great for maternity: The rocky overlooks give your photos an "on top of the world" vibe. It feels adventurous, and offers spectacular drama for my adventurous moms who aren't afraid to climb some rocks.

5. Bear Creek Regional Park

This is my "hidden gem" for families who want soft, organic colors. During the late spring and summer, the meadows are lush and green, often filled with wildflowers. It also bosts wonderful color in the fall, if you want those changing leaves.

• Why it’s great for maternity: The soft, rolling hills provide a gentle backdrop that keeps the focus entirely on you and your bump. With flat trails and wide spaces, this is also an optimal choice for families with little kids that like to roam.
